Betterworks says the workplace is “at a crossroads” as AI drives productivity but its most engaged users are tempted by new opportunities. The result is a split in employee sentiment about AI, which could hurt a company’s ability to retain talent and maintain an agile workforce.

In its 2025 Performance Enablement Report, the performance-management company found that employees most comfortable with AI are moving, while those disengaged from AI are staying in place. Nearly 8 in 10 highly engaged employees — who are often AI-savvy — are actively seeking new opportunities while 65% of AI-resistant employees plan to remain where they are.
